Apartheid is a way of separating people depending on their race. The title "Glory and Hope" is appropriate for Mandela's speech because in his speech he refers to how they believe that they will have freedom. He speaks about everything they will be able to do.
South Africa experienced a difficult time period. It was a time when Africa followed a segregated political system, that separated the different people living there and gave particular privileges to those of European origin. This system is also known as “Apartheid.”
After this system was diminished, people felt “Glory and Hope.” “ We,… feel fulfilled that humanity has taken us back into its bosom,…” This meaningful quote from Nelson Mandela’s Speech, expresses the pride and happiness in achieving freedom and justice after they had been outlawed.

Apartheid means separateness. This separation of whites and blacks occurred in South Africa between 1948 and 1990. When the National Party took power in 1948, it led to a widespread of racism and white domination. South African blacks were no longer citizens of their country, but were made citizens of one of the ten tribes. These tribes were in areas that were useless to the white government. Blacks could only vote in these tribal homelands. Education, medical care, and other basic services were all segregated under this government. As time was passing, the Apartheid government’s military became stronger, wanting to fight off any outside help blacks were receiving. In 1993, negotiations among the parties of South Africa helped bring apartheid to an end. In 1994, Nelson Mandela, a black man, became president of South Africa.
I think that “Glory and Hope” is a good title for this speech because throughout this address, Nelson Mandela speaks about the achievements that have been met by the blacks of South Africa. When he says, “We have, at last, achieved our political emancipation,” he means that the freedom they have struggled for, for so long, has now been achieved. They have racial equality and are no longer discriminated against. This is the glory he speaks of. There is hope for unity in Nelson Mandela’s eyes. He states to his people, “We must therefore act together as united people, for national reconciliation, for nation building, and for the birth of a new world.” Through this, he hopes that whites and blacks can rebuild South Africa into a stronger nation.

That instruction means to me that all people are the same even if your a different color, shape and size. In Mr.Kings speech this instruction comes up alot because hes fighting to get peace within white and black people. Glory and Hope is a very good title for Nelson Mandela’s speech. It’s a good title because he said that the Africans went through a tough time and watched Africa fall apart. He says that he is going to try to restore peace in Africa as their first president. He says that they all have to unite as one in order to do this. The word means in that place, or anywhere’s for that matter, there is a policy or a system of segregation, which is a racial discrimination. It is not fair or right that these people have to live in segregation, or be made fun of or discriminated for their race. One man agreed with this fact. His name is Nelson Mandela.

In South Africa there was racial segregation everywhere. The whites and the blacks never mixed. It was worse than in the United States of America. The blacks were the lowest class and they were servants to white. White people were always racially abusing the people of color. They were treated as the lowest of all and were given no opportunity to get out the whole of poverty. This horrific treatment is known as apartheid. Nelson Mandela fought against this in South Africa.

The speech that I had just read was "Glory and Hope" by Nelson Mandela. In this speech he is talking about his African American nationality and how he and his people were looked down on and were basically treaded differently then the others in the world. The title that was given to his speech is appropriate for it. It is appropriate because it says in it that he wants his people of his same kind to be treated the same as the people of the white color. That is an example of hope. There also is an example of glory in his speech. The example for glory in this speech is when he says all his thank you to the people that helped him and the people of the nation with getting the same right as everyone else. When he says all of the thank you that’s when he shows glory. He is glorifying the people for all their hard work and effort to the subject.

I believe Nelson Mandela's message is for blacks to stand up for themselves. That they should believe things will get better and segregation will soon be no more. Nelson Mandela states, "Their dreams have become reality. Freedom is their reward." These two sentences are showing glory. They are rejoicing because they have now earned freedom. "The time of healing of the wounds has come. The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come. The time to build is upon us." These words are exemplifying hope. People are hoping that they will soon conquer all the challenges and obstacles ahead. They hope the fight against racism will be over. Such as when he speaks of how each of the people of South Africa feel so proud just when they touch the soil. A main example of Glory in Mandela’s speech is how he speaks of the freedom almost being succeeded. Mandela speaks of hope whenver he talks of wanting to end the discrimination. Their hope to become free is turning into something they will hold with pride. However, ending their continuing bondage of poverty, deprivation, suffering, gender and race discrimination was still a hope. Their hope is to build a society in South Africa in which whites and blacks can walk tall, amongst each other, together as free, equal people.

Basically, it was a way to discriminate against a person based on the color of their skin. After spending 27 years as a political prisoner, Nelson Mandela became the first black president of South Africa. In his speech, 'Glory and Hope', Mandela speaks to the world about the progress his country has made in eliminating racial segregation from his country. To demonstrate Hope, he says that "The spiritual and physical oneness we all share with this common homeland explains the depth of the pain we all carried in our hearts as we saw our country tear itself apart in terrible conflict..., and we saw it spurned, outlawed and isolated by the people of the world, precisely because it has become the universal base of the pernicious ideology and practice of racism and racial oppression". He confers glory and hope because of the new liberty. He refers to glory in his speech when he thanks all of the guests for showing their pride for their country. He also pays thanks to the security forces for all of their work and for contributing to bringing the nation to where it is. More glory indicated in the speech was when he dedicated the day to all heros and heroines who helped make all free. Another indication of glory is when he says that “out of an extraordinary human disaster that lasted too long must be born a society of which all humanity will be proud”. He was proud to state in his speech that the people of South Africa had overcome a time where there was so much hatred and conflict.
Signs of hope also resinate in his speech. He hopes for the world to stay united, nonracial and nonsexist. He says,”We must therefore act together as a united people,...”; meaning, we should all act as one because we are one. “Glory and Hope” is an appropriate name for Nelson Mandela’s speech. It is the main idea Mandela is trying to get across to his audience. In Mandela’s speech he is saying they have accomplished many right and achievements for South Africans, and some other Africans, but there is still much more to achieve. South Africans can only achieve their goals through hope. “We have at last, achieved our political emancipation. South Africa suffered and was torn apart by these policies for a long time, and there was a great amount of suffering and pain because of them.

“Glory and Hope” is an appropriate title for Nelson Mandela’s message because now, at last the people who were oppressed and segregated are happy and their lives have changed for the good because under old system, their way of life was difficult and oppressive. In this speech Nelson Mandela is being inaugurated and he is ending the Apartheid, and teaching the African Americans to hope, to be happy, to feel free. The title connects with the message because Mandela is showing his listeners that hope and perseverance can put a stop to the Apartheid, and that everyone will be treated the same, black or white, were all equal. His message also connects with glory and hope when he says, “Let each know that for each the body, the mind and the soul have been freed to fulfill themselves.” In that quote he is implying that they will receive and feel glorious because they can live without being discriminated or put down by people who believe they are more superior.

The government resorted to the use of physical torture. Nelson Mandela was an anti-Apartheid activist. He spent 27 years in prison for charges of sabotage committee while rebelling against Apartheid. However, Mandela became the first black president of South America, and he was widely praised for voicing his opinion on many controversial topics. In Mandela’s speech “Glory and Hope”, Mandela encourages the crowd, telling them that they will never again be faced with the hardship of Apartheid. The country will soon feel a sense of renewal. When Mandela says, “the time for the healing of the wounds has come. The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come. The time to build is upon us,” I, as a listener, can feel hope for this country that has faced such discrimination. I also feel Mandela’s bond to the issue, and I feel confident in Mandela, knowing his words are coming from the heart. When he states, “Their dreams have come reality. After years of struggle apartheid ended. This transition was needed but not easy. Mandella hoped for a brighter future for South Africa and he knew they would need help from countries around the world. As he stated,” We trust that you will continue to stand by us as we tackle the challenges of building peace, prosperity, non-sexism, non-racialism, and democracy.” “We have triumphed in the effort to implant hope in the breast of the millions of our people. Nelson Mandela spent 27 years as a political prisoner in South Africa before becoming the country's first black president. Mandela was a leading member of the African National Congress, ANC, which opposed South Africa's white minority government and its policy of racial separation, known as apartheid. The government outlawed the ANC in 1960. Mandela was captured and jailed in 1962, and in 1964 he was convicted of treason and sentenced to life in prison. The time to build is upon us.”, is saying it’s time for a change, a time to end segregation, and a time to have peace among people. Another part of the speech that helps make the title appropriate is, “Their dreams have become reality. Freedom is their reward.” ,This means, if people strive to make their dreams come true, and to become somewhat of a hero, they will get the reward of freedom.
