Night by Elie Wiesel Entry #1

In the first few pages of the book, Eliezer describes his family: he goes to school, he has three sisters, and his parents run a shop.  How is his life similar to yours?  How is it different?

Elizer Wiesel's childhood is similar to my own in various ways. He studies and goes to school just as I do. Both myself and Elie have a younger sibling. Elizer is going through his early teenage years similar to me. We are also both living in a time of war. Just like Elie I too believe in God. Though we believe in different religions, we both believe there is a higher power beyond us.
There are also many differences between Elizer and myself. Aside from being different religions, we also grew up on different continents. Elizer grew up in Sighet, Transylvania in the late 1930s to the early 1940s. The different timeperiods greatly affect the culture as do the location. I am also not quite as religious as Elie. He studies the Talmud in the daytime and prays in the synagogue come night. While I would like to think of myself as a dedicated, loyal Catholic I am not as intense as Elie in my religious studies.

Eliezer Wiesel's life is similar to mine and also different. He goes to school like I do. His parents run a business like my parents do. My dad owns a landscaping business and my mom does the paperwork for him. His life is different from mine because he has three siblings and I only have one. Even though I am living in a time of war, I am not living in the area where the war is taking place. Eliezer lived in the area where The Holacaust was taking place. As a result, he had bad experiences such as being forced to leave his house and go to a concentration camp.

Eliezer Wiesels's young teenage years are both different and similar from my own life. We are very different from each other in a couple of ways. Elizer has three sisters while I only have one. My parents do not run their own shop. My father is a carpenter and my mother works in a school. There are also some similarities between Elizer and myself. First off, I attend school just as Elizer had. We are both receiving good education and learning about our religions. We are both living during a time of war. It was probably much harder for him though since he is actually living in the area where the war is taking place. We are also alike because we both face the hardships of growing up and facing the harsh realitity of becoming mature adults.

Eliezer Wiesel’s life is both similar and different to mine. We both share a common aspect in that we have parents that both work, have a family, and live in a town or society. We are both growing up as teenagers, and learning the hardships and joys in the world. We also both make mistakes. However, though our lives are similar in those aspects, they are also different. Eliezer is growing up in the time of Hitler, and is eventually sent to a concentration camp. I have never been to a concentration camp, nor did I grow up in a time where I have to be afraid to practice my religion. Other differences are that he has other siblings, and I don’t. Also, we are growing up in completely different time periods. He is living and growing up in the World War II era, where I am living in present times. We are also similar in the fact that we believe in God, though he doesn’t have much faith at the end of the book.

Elie Wiesel's childhood is similar to my own in many aspects. For example; during the day i attend school, just as Elizer did. Elizer and I both have sibling older and younger than ourselves, although I only have two siblings.
There are many differences between Elie's childhood and my own. My family does not run a shop. Elie also is a firm believer in God, and I do not believe in my religion as much ad Elie did in the beginning of the book. Elie Wiesel grew up in a very different time than I, and in a very different place. This fact helps to cause some of the differences between Elizer's childhood and my own.

I have a similar childhood to Elie Wiesel's in many ways. A few are is that we both have siblings, we both believe that god is existant, we are around the sam age,we are both going through a war, we both are teenagers, and both of us have a parent who owns a business. Our differences are hat he has three sisters, and i have on sister and four brothers, he is jewish and i am not, he is younger than me in the beginngin but is older than me at the end, we are living through different wars (the war in iraq, and the halocaust), and his mom owns a shop and my mother owns a school business.

My life, in ways, are both similar and different to the life of Elie Wiesel. As well as other kids, I go to school like Elie. I also have younger siblings like Eliezer. Akin to Elie, I am also deeply interested in my religion and its' history. Another thing that I have in common with Elie is that both he and I are living in times of war. Currently, the war in Iraq is taking place and who knows what is happening there. Just like that, Elie was ACTUALLY living at the time of the war, experiencing the pain and suffering of it, and listening to news about loved ones or acquaintances passing away. The difference between Elie and I is that he was actually experiencing the affects of the war and suffering because of the war. However, I am not living in Iraq, nor do I have to experience any pain. Also, Eliezer had different customs and religious beliefs than I. He was a Jewish teen living through the Holocaust and I am a Muslim teen living in America with all the necessities a person needs.

Eliezer Wiesel's life can really relate to my life but also differ. Elie goes to school and so do I. He also studies religion often. I go to church three times a week because I'm in the choir and I also altar serve. Since I have made my communion and confirmation I understand my religious duties and my love for God. He has also shown his faithfulness to God in this book but also has shown some doubt in him. We also have siblings. He has three sisters while I only have one twin brother. His family is unlike mine. While his parents run their own business, my parents work for other people. We are both facing war during our childhood. Elie has a strong connection to his family but my family doesn't have as many strong bonds as his. Elie went through so many horrible days and nights. He suffered so much and yet had to willpower to write a book and bring back all those painful memories. As for I, my problems seem so small compared how he had to grow up.

Eliezer's family sounds like a normal family.
My family is like Eliezer's family because like
him, I also go to school and am curious about
what else is out there. I grew up in a big
family with 4 siblings (Two older sisters and
two older brothers) and know what it is like
to live with many other people besides yourself
and sharing rooms etc. My father is a fireman
and my mother is a "stay at home" mom. In many
ways, my life is similar. And in many other ways
(thank god) my life is extremely different.

Elizer Wiesel's life is like mine in many ways. We both go to school and we both have two parents. Elie and I also both make religion a big part of our lives. Despite our religious differences, we both believe in something having to do with God. The two of us each have three siblings: Elizer has three younger sisters, and I have two older sisters and one younger brother. Some things that make Elizer and I different is that only my dad has a job, while both of Elie's parents had jobs. Also, Elizer probably learned different things in school than I'm learning now. Elie and I are both living in a time of war; however he lives much closer to where the war is taking place than I do.

I think Elie Wiesel's childhood if similar to my childhood because we do the same normal things like playing with friends or studying your religious beliefs. It is different because we now are treated differently and the government prevents more bad things from happening but the holocaust was a lesson learned to keep watch for anything else like that even though its still happening in Darfur. We are also different because Elie did live in harder times. We are similar because i also have a big family like his and i bet he loved them very much but if i was him i wouldn't know what to do in a horrible situation like his having to see all of those deaths. We both have similarities and differences for example the horrific life change that will haunt him forever but it only gets worse before it gets better. In the end we were two teenage kids but differed by one of us going through a very traumatizing experience. I think it was very healthy for him to pour out his feelings in this book which i enjoyed.

Elie Wiesel's life is like mine in many ways. Although Elie is Jewish and I am Catholic we still both believe in god. Elie and I are both young teenagers, he studies and attends school just as i do. Elie and I both have siblings, he is one of four and I am one of two. Me and Elie also have many things about our lives that are different. Elie lives in a different part of the world than I do. Aside from different places we also lived in different periods of time. Elie's childhood was in the late 1930's to the early 1940's. In Elie's childhood he took religion very seriously, while even though I am still a catholic I am not as dedicated to studying about my religion as he is. Another similarity Elie's life and mine have in common is that his father runs a business so does my father and mother. I can not compare my life to Elie's in such a way because I can not express the feelings I have for what he went through. Having a life experience in a concentration camp must have scarred him for his lifetime. That's what I feel is the biggest difference between my life and Elizer's. The huge life changing experiences he has gone through, compared to my minor lifestyle problems.

I believe my childhood resembles Elizer Wiesel's in many ways. Elie and I are both teenagers, and we both have younger siblings and parents. We both take school very seriously. We also have differences. Elie believes in Judaism, but I am a Roman Catholic. There are also very distinct differences in our lifestyles because he grew up in Sighet, Translvania in the 1930's, where I am a modern day New Yorker. We are both living through war, however I can't even imagine what it must be like to endurew such torture for so long.

Wiesel was sent to a concentration camp with all of the other Jews. It was a very rough life to deal with. Soon as the days went by Wiesel started to get used to his life at the concentration camp. Some examples are:
pg73- Wiesel is saying how they went to work as usual and how they rose at dawn as they did everyday. He is putting as he is used to doing this everyday.

pg78- Wiesel is also saying again he went to work as usual. He also said there bodies were frozen and felt like their hands were going to remain stuck, but they got used to it.

pg85- He says how the SS made them increase their pace while marching. Wiesel says "Why not?" "Moving faster made us a little warmer". "We had the feeling of being alive".

Elie Wiesel describes his family. He has three sisters, I have two sisters. We do live similar lives because when he was younger he lived in a war zone as do I. with all the military and soldiers and marines fight with other countries is really bad and it is killing people. Just like now Elie had to deal with a war too he and his family had to live in a concentration camp, although his sisters and mother where killed as soon as the got to Auschwitz because they were women and children they were no use to the Nazis’. He got through it and faced his fears and had the heart to share it with the world. I made it though the war and the fact of having to deal with my cousins joining the war one of them is 38 and the other is 18. we all have to face this even though I have grief Elie had it worse and I admire him because he but his grief aside and wrote this book “night” that told us what pain he felt during it. I would love to know why he would write this because if it was me I wouldn’t be able to write this because that would mean reliving it all over again in detail too.

Elie Wisel's childhood is similar to mine as well as different in many different ways. Such as that I have to help my parents do various chores around the house, and I have one younger brother. My parents are both psychologists, just as Elizer's were both store owners. We are both teenagers going through life changing experiences of our own. Although I believe in God just as Elizer, I am not as religious and persistent with my religious studies as Elie was. As we are both living during war time, I am not experiencing war face-to-face like he did.

Eliezers childhood is different from my own in many ways. Although, I do attend a school just like he did. However, I do not have 3 siblings; I have 2. Since his parents are job owners, that can relate to my childhood as well. But, its also different. What is similar to my chilhood is that, both of my parents work for a living. However, my parents work for other companies, they don't own their own job/company. Another thing that is very differnt from both of our childhood is that I was not forced out of my house to a concentration camp. I never had to witness what Eilie did when he was my age. There is one similarity though. Eliezer was living in time of war, and each and every one of us is, too.

Elie’s life is very similar to my life in many ways. He has parents and siblings like mine and most families. He attends school and does his studies, just like me. His parents work for a living as do mine. My dad owns a business and so does Elie’s parents. Elie and I both believe in one god, even though he practices a different religion than I do. We are both growing up and learning about life and the harsh world. We are both living through a war, even though he was affected far more than I am. Elie is very family-oriented. He loves and takes care of his father and family, as I love and care for mine. Elie and I also have some differences in the way we live. First of all, he lived in the 1930s-1940s, where I am living in the present 2008. Elie also lived in a totally different continent than I. He lived in Sighet, Translyvania. Elie is far more religious than I am. He prays many times a day and practices Judaism, where I am a Catholic. He is very interested in Kabala and mysticism where I am not interested in any of those topics. As you can see, Elie and I have similarities and differences.

I have yet to expierience anything close to what Eliezer did in the concentration camp, and i hope i never will. Eliezer and I have different religous views. I believe that Jesus had walked the earth and was born in a manger in Bethlehem while he does not think Jesus was born yet. Though we are very different, we are both human and share the same human dignity as the rest of the world. Its our job to use our free will for the good of society.

We probably both had dreams to grow up and become something that is important to us. He has 3 sisters and I have 1 sister and 1 brother so that is different. We also have different religious beliefs. I am a Catholic and he is Jewish. I also never had some really bad experiences in my like yet and i don't want any but Elizer was in the middle of the holocaust were hitler abused and killed many Jews.

Eliezer Wiesel and I have many similarities and also many differences in our childhood. The first similarity is that we both have a mom, a dad and siblings. The difference would be that I have two sisters while has three.
We also believe in our religion. Although he may be Jewish and I Catholic, we still believe in the same God. Eliezer is a faithful follower of his religion and even though I believe myself to be a faithful Catholic, I haven’t been so devoted to it as much as Eliezer.
Another difference would be that I was born here in America in 1994 while he was born in Transylvania in 1928. The time gap alone is a major difference because in those 57 years, many new advancements in technology have happened. Also, wars have passed and the world and its people have changed since then. Beliefs and values have also changed in the world today.
Although the year we grew up in was different, the life we both lived was difficult. He faced death, pain and torture while I faced mean girls, hard tests and sometimes mean teachers. Although the difficult times I faced are minor to his, for me. They were hard to go through just like him during World War 2.

My life is different from Elie’s life in many ways. My family has one parent where his has many. Also, we are all girl in my house and we fight sometimes and in Elie’s family everyone respected one another. They had dinners together and the mom always made dinner. In my house we barely ever eat dinner together and my mom cooks as often as it snows in Florida. In addition, I’m not as religious as Elie I go to Church when I can and pray when I remember. Our families and life are different n many ways.
Elie’s family and my family are similar in numerous ways. For example, our families are full of love and always help each other. My family also gathers on holidays and does something special such as on Christmas my uncle comes up from North Carolina and celebrates with us. On birthdays, we all go to my grandma’s for dinner. My family is very close just like Elies’s. We are always together. I do believe in a God like Elie. My family and life are the same as Elie’s in many ways.

Elie and myself are around the same age, making it easier for me to relate my life to his in the story. However, my life does differ in some aspects. For example, I'm Catholic not Jewish and not as religious as Elie is. Another variation of our lives is that I'm a girl and Elie is a boy. We also live in completely different places which means some of our customs and daily activities differ. For the most part, my life is very similar to Elie's. I have a wonderful, loving family and I live a pretty normal teenage life.

Eliezer Wiesel's childhood and family was similar to mine, yet very different as well. Elie had three sisters, two older than him, and one younger. I have two sisters who are both younger than me. My father has an electrical company, while Elie's father ran a shop. We both have to attend formal schooling, and we both take other lessons outside of school. We are both very dedicated to our particular faiths, Elie in Judaism and I in Catholicism. We both come from families of very strong faith backgrounds as well.

Eliezer Wiesel had many personal characteristics and attributes I cannot relate to. Elie grew up in a different time period than me, which is an obvious difference. I also believe that Elie had more restrictions and requirements in his everyday life than I do. He was expected to go and pray for the loss of the Temple (where he usually ended up weeping) everyday, and was restricted in what he was supposed to learn in his studies, although he "broke the rules" his father had given him. I think the fact that Elie was surrounded by people of the same faith as him, in the small town of Sighet, Transylvania, he had more demanding religious life. I live in a city of many religions and cultures, and I am able to learn of other faiths and branch out into other activities not involving my faith. I live in a diverse world, while Elie lived in a confined world.

Elie Wiesel’s life and mine have both similarities and differences. One example of why our lives are similar is that Elie has a family that loves and cares for him, as he loves and cares for them. I love my family, and I would do anything for them, while my family feels the same way about me. Also, Elie and I are both growing up in a time of war. Even though this is true, I believe that Elie is a lot more affected by the war that he was living through than I am. Elie was sent to concentration camps, and was treated horrifically. He was treated worse than anybody should ever be treated, and he saw things that were absolutely appalling. This was all because of the war that was going on around him. Meanwhile, I’m living a life that is nothing like that. I really do sympathize for those who are suffering because of war, and I pray that life will get better for them. A difference between Elie and I is that he is Jewish while I am Catholic. Even though we both believe in relatively different things, we both deeply believe in our faith. Although I have to admit that Elie is a bit more religious than I am. Now that I really think about it, no matter how different Elie’s life is to mine, we are both more similar than I thought.

I am a Roman Catholic and I strongly believe in the Holy Trinity.

He states that he lived in Transylvania at the time before he was taken to the concentration camps. I grew up and still live in America, in the same house since birth. The timeline in the book is in the 1940s, while the present time is 2008. Even though there is a war going on at this time, I am nowhere near its location and not directly involved in it. Elie and his family were taken to a concentration camp during World War II. He is Jewish and very observant. He studies the Talmud and goes to the synagogue at night. I am Catholic and attend Mass each week. I do not read the Bible daily, but in Theology I am learning more about my faith.

Eliezer, the main character in the novel Night, by Elie Wiesel, is a teenager growing up in the 1940s. Eliezer’s life is quite similar to mine, yet different in several ways. First of all, Eliezer and I both go to school, and it is our first priority. Eliezer claims, “As for me, my place was in the house of study.” (p. 4) School is also very important to me because I believe it is imperative to have a good education. Eliezer’s life is also similar to mine because we both have siblings; however, I have two sisters and Eliezer has three. In addition, Eliezer and I both give preference to religion. In the novel, Eliezer goes out of his way to spend time in the synagogue, and has a keen interest in learning more about his faith. I, too, spend a good handful of my weekends at my mosque and would definitely pick going to the mosque over anything else. However, Eliezer and I are not of the same faith; I am a Muslim, and Eliezer is Jewish. Eliezer’ parents run a shop, while my parents do not. Also, the historical and cultural context in which Eliezer lives is different from my life in many ways. He lives in a different country, and has different morals, values, and beliefs. He lives in Sighet, Transylvania, a place I had not known too much about before reading this novel. An example of one of Eliezer’s beliefs is the fact that, as the only son in his family, he should go to school and get a good education, while his sisters help with work at the store. I personally believe that everyone has the right to have an education, regardless of gender.

Eliezer Wiesel’s life and my life have many similarities, just as they do differences. A few basic similarities are that Eliezer and myself both go to school and study. We also have three siblings each. Both of Elie’s parents work together in running a shop, and although my parents neither work together, nor run a shop, they do work outside the home. Another similarity is that during both of our teenage years, there is a war going on. Even though the war that is taking place at the present time is not occurring where I live, it exists just the same, with many lives being lost. To conclude our similarities, Elie, as well as myself, are religious.
A few differences between Eliezer and myself begin with our religions. Though we both believe in God, we differ because of my belief in Jesus. Eliezer is also extremely dedicated to his religion, studying Talmud during the day and Kabbalah at night. I feel that I am a dedicated Catholic, but I don’t put as much effort as Elie. One major difference between us is that Elie experiences first hand the war at his feet, starvation, and intense cruelty for himself and loved ones. I, on the other hand, never lost anyone in my family or a close friend to death. Another minor difference is that Elie lives in Sighet, Transylvania before he ends up in the concentration camps, and I live in Staten Island, New York.

Eliezer's childhood is similar, and different in many ways. Elie goes to school, just as I do. However, I only have two siblings, and he has three. Eilie's parents work, such as my parent, too. However, my parents work for certain companies, they don't own their own like Eliezer's parents do. Our lives are similar becuase we are both living in our teen years, and is going through the same things. However, what is different is becuase I didn't have to be evacuted from where I live becuase of my religion. I never had to face and experience what Eilie had. Elie is also very religious, and reads the Talmud
everyday. But, as for me, I am not as dedicated as he is. Eliezer and I are both facing times of war, and we are living around a world full of people who judge others for what kind of race, religion, or nationality you are.

There are many similarities between my life and Elie Wiesel’s life. We both have two parents that care for our well being, we have siblings and our parents work .We are both teenagers close in age living through a time of war. Religion plays an important role in and has had impact in both our lives. There are many differences in our lives. While he has three siblings I only have one. Elie’s parents run a shop together while my parents neither run a shop nor work together. Though we both are living through a time or war the influence it took on Elie’s life is greater than the war is taking on mine. He was persecuted for his religions were I am able to practice mine freely. Though we lived in different times we share similarities and differences.

Eliezer’s life is both similar and different to mine in many ways. Elie and I both have siblings, but I have two brothers and he has three sisters. We are both educated and go to school. Elie and I have working parents, except in different professions. We live as the adolescents of our time, but in a very different time period and place. Elie lives in Sighet, Transylvania in the 1940s and we live in Staten Island, New York in present day. Elie and I are believers in God; however we do not have exactly the same beliefs. Elie is Jewish and I am Christian. I believe in God, but I think that Elie has a really strong bond with him and more fully dedicates himself than many people.

Eliezer Wiesel's life is similar and different than mine in many different ways. The similarities are that, Eliezer Wiesel and myself both attend school and practice a religion. Although i do not have three sisters' like him, I do have a brother. So another similarity could be that we both have siblings. Eliezer and I are also the same, because we both have two parents that are concerned for us and are looking out for our best interest.
Me and Eliezer are different, because Eliezer grew up in a different time period then me. We have completely differnt life styles. Eliezer is very curious about other religions and wants to start practicing other religions. I am curious about other religions but unlike Eliezer, i do not wish to practice them. Also, Since Eliezer grew up in the 1940's his lifestyle was completely different than what mine is like now.

My life is similar to Elizer Wiesel’s in some ways. For example, we’re both teenagers growing up in a time of war. Also, we’re both students in school. He has two parents, like myself. Also, he has friends of a different religion. There are some differences too. Elie has three sisters while I have only two brothers. He believes in the Jewish faith, and I am a Catholic. He is very committed to his religious obligations, as am I, but he devotes day and night to it. Also, Elie lived in a different time period in a different country. He was enslaved under dictator, Adolf Hitler, and in modern-day America, that is seen as cruelty. Elizer immense faith in God and his father is an inspiration to me, and his story touched me.

Comparing my childhood to Eliezer Wiesel’s childhood, there are few similarities and differences. Eliezer is a teenage boy that went to school, just as i do everyday. We both have younger siblings also. Another similarity is that we are both living in time period with wars going on in the world. Eliezer and myself have another thing in common by both believing in religions, but we believe in different religions. Eliezer practiced his religion daily and went to the synagogue almost and if not everyday. I also practice a religion, but I am not as religious as he is, only going to mass every Sunday. Eliezer wasn't able to pratice his religion freely as am i able to today in society. Another difference is that both of his parent work daily. Only my father works, and my mom is a stay at home mother.

Elie Wiesel's life is similar to mine in a variety of ways. A few similarities Elie and I share are that we have siblings. Although he has three sisters, and he is the only boy, I have two brothers, and I am the only girl. We both study our religion and go to school. My mother does not work, however, she takes care of my brothers and myself all the time. My father does not run his own shop, but he does work outside of my home. Another similarity between mine and Elie's life is that there is a war going on during both of our lives. The war that Elie is taking part of, is taking place right in front of him. Although I am not on the battle grounds of the war going on in my life, I am still witnessing a horrible deed. Thousands of lives have been lost, while I am here, not able to prevent it.
There are also differences between Eliezer and I. He is Jewish while I am Catholic. He studies different religions as well. He learns about Kabalah and studies the Talmud. I, myself, am not as religious as Elie is. I am a devout Catholic, I pray, and study my religion, however, Eliezer, I feel, is much more dedicated than myself.

Eliezer Wiesel's family and my family are similar in a couple of ways. Both of our families are religious. My family and I go to Sacred Heart Church and Eliezer’s family goes to synagogue. Even though Eliezer is Jewish and I’m a Catholic, we still believe in ONE true god. Eliezer and I are both teenagers who are living in a world full of chaos. There are also ways my family and Eliezer’s family are different. Eliezer has three siblings and I am an only child. Unlike Eliezer’s family, my mom and dad do not own their own shop. One major difference is that Eliezer and his dad went through so much pain during the war because they were actually part of it. They were sent to concentration camps where they worked all day long. I am not actually suffering psychical pain from the war in Iraq. Since Eliezer was in the camp most of his teenage life, he didn’t get to experience all the things teenagers can do. Like, going to mall, the movies, and just hanging out with friends.

Elie’s life is very similar to my own life in many ways, but they are also very diverse at the same time. Elie and I both have a younger sister that we deeply care about. Just like Elie I am also growing out of my childhood and learning to become a mature adult. Unfortunately the way Elie find his maturity was rather sudden and harsh for a teenager of his age. There is one thing that my mother and Elie’s parents definitely have in common and that is that they both believe education is a top priority. But Elie’s life, compared to mine, does differ in several ways, such as the fact that we both grew up in two completely different generations and countries. Elie also has different religious beliefs then I do. He practices the Jewish faith -even though he is interested in kabala, but I practice Catholicism. And even though I have experienced some tragic events in my life none of them can live up to the horror that poor Elie had to go through during his time in the concentration camp.

Elie is very involved and dedicated to his religion. I am not as devoted to my religion as he is to his.

Eliezer and I are similar and different at the same time. We both go to school and learn about our religions. Elie is Jewish so he learns about the Torah. He wants to learn about the Jewish religion from Mosihe but his father doesn't let him. I go to Catholic school so they teach me not only about my religion but other religions like the Jewish religion. I also have siblings like Elie. I have an older sister and a younger one. I take care of them and love them like Elie does. We are both living during war. But i think war back then is harder than now.We are also around the same age. Elie's life is different from mine too. Eliezer lived in a different time period than we live now so it was harder for him back then. No one had to be forced to go to a concentration camp now. America is a free country and you can do whatever you want. During Elie's time you had to listen to what anyone tells you to do. My parents work like Elie's but they don't own a shop like his parents do. During the time of the Holocaust it was very different from what we live now. These are the differences and similarities between me and Elie.

Elie's life is both similar and different to mine. There aren't many similarities between us, but we are both living in a time of war, but he was alot more effected by it then I am. Also im am a student as was he. Compared to the similarities, there are so many differences between our lives. We practice differnt religions, his family owns a business, my moms a teacher, and my dad works for PEPSI,and Elie has three sisters and I only have two.

Eliezers childhood is different from my own in many ways. First of all, I do not have 3 siblings; I have 2. His dad own a business and mine is a dentist. We both study and go to school. However, we live in different time periods and different locations. Elie lived in Sighet and I live in Staten Island. Elie is a lot more religious than I am. He practices Judaism and I practice Islam. We both live in a time period of war. However, Elizer went through far more torture and suffering than I have. In the book Elie was turning 14 and I am also. We are also similar in personalities. Throughout the book Elie learned to never give up and to have faith and so do I. But still I feel that Elie matured and has gone through so much more than I have although we are the same age.

Eliezer Wiesel's childhood is similar and different to mine in many ways. I have younger sibling like he does, although I only have one and he has three. Like his, my parents also work, but do not own or work at a store like Eliezer’s parents. My mother is a law firm secretary and my dad is an accountant. We both go to school and receive an education, like all children and we both believe in God. Our religions differ because he is Jewish and I am Catholic. But I am also learning about Judaism, just like how he learned about his faith when he was a child. Both me and Eliezer live in a time of war, but the war my country is in didn’t affect me as much as it affected Eliezer and his family. Because of the war his country was in, Eliezer and his family had to go to concentration camps, where most of his family died in.

There is not really any similarities between Elie Wiesels' family and mine. My family is all very close and I have younger siblings. I am the oldest.
My family is always there for one another and would never leave one behind.
In Wiesels' situation I could not imagine and would rather not think about what would happen. I know the females of my family and I would be dead just because of the sexual discrimination. Other then that, I have nothing to say.

Religions with all its teachings have had a profound impact on both Elie Wiesel and I. One difference between Elie Wiesel and I is that I am Catholic whereas he is of the Jewish faith. Another difference that I noticed is that I attend a Catholic school and believe in all the Catholic teachings, whereas he takes it to a much further extent. He is constantly praying and questioning the secrets of his Jewish beliefs. One similarity between us is that he and I both have siblings and both are the third child. Although we grew up in different times, our primary focus is our education during our teenage years. Another similarity is that we are both growing up in times of war. Since Elie grew up in a tightly knit Jewish community he studied the Talmud and was taught by Moshe the Beadle while I grew up in a Catholic parish with most of my teachings of religion in a classroom.

Another thing we have in common is that we both live during a period of war. Though we may have some similarities we have more differnces. Elizer had three sisters, but I have only one younger sister and one older brother. And even though there is a war going on now, it is not any where near my home. Elie and his family were forced to leave there home and gone to a concentration camp and my family and I havn't (thank God) and been living in the same house for my whole life. My parents don't run a shop, my mom is a teacher and my dad is a "stay at home mom".

He got separated from his mother and sisters at an early age. Neither of these things happened to me.

He grew up in a time where they had to be scared to practice there religion, we do not have to be scared to practice religion. Elizer Wiesel’s family and life in general is similar to mine in many ways. One of those ways is that he has a sibling, however he has three sisters and I only have one. We also both have a mom and a dad. His dad owns a shop unlike my dad who is a firefighter. His mom is a co-owner of the shop with his dad unlike my mom who is an accountant for a non-profit, community center. His life is similar in the fact that we both are growing up in times of war, and that we are both teenagers not only dealing with the troubles of teenage life but also school problems, and religious beliefs are a big part in my life just as they are in his. Aside from having different religions, we also grew up on different continents. Elizer grew up in Sighet, Transylvania in the late 1930s to the early 1940s. I however am currently growing up in Staten Island, New York, USA. He and I are both living in a time of war however I am not living in a place where the war is taking place unlike Elizer. These are just a few things we have in common.

Elie Wiesel’s family is similar and differs to mine in many ways. Elie like me has 3 sisters and attends school regularly. Just like Elie’s parents my parents run a shop. Unlike me we have different religious beliefs he attends a synagogue and I go to church on Sundays. War is in taking place for both me and him. He also struggled strongly with the holocaust taking place I could only imagine splitting apart from my family, striving for survival, and getting beaten brutally. these are my similarities and differences from me and Elie.
